Description
CONTAINS 1 DOZEN (12) DECOYS.
The implementation of the Conservation Order in 1999 took snow goose hunting from a fringe activity by a few to mainstream. Before 1999, snow goose hunters mainly pass or jump-shot them. When the USFWS started allowing electronic callers, unplugged guns, and no limits, it changed snow geese hunting. Countless snow goose spreads ring all of the largest snow goose refuges. Once considered a large spread, one thousand decoys is now regarded as the minimum number of decoys to be successful.
How Should My Spread Look?
Headless make up the majority of the mega migrator decoy spreads. Our decoy spreads are 1800 decoys. With this many, 15-25% of the decoys should be sentry’s. We like 75% sentry snows (60-65% snows, 10-15% juvy snows) and 25% sentry blue geese.
Snow geese are mainly white, with black and a little grey on their wingtips. It’s hard to get much intricate detail to print. Even so, we pull as much detail as we can out of our artwork. Slapping a black X on a white body isn’t good enough for us. We always print in vivid, flat, and true colors on Tyvek®. Tyvek is not an easy material to print on, but its rotproof – waterproof properties are a perfect match for the weather variations of the spring snow goose season. Dimensions of our snow goose body are 12″ W X 19″ L, and each has three drain holes, so water ends up in the dirt, not your in your decoys.
Our snow geese come standard with BackBone Supports™. Our simple, patented support made from no-break plastic has superior durability. We hunt with our decoys. They are not designed in a cubical by someone that has never hunted snow geese. We have thousands of hunt days over these supports. We’ve made several improvements early on, but we’ve sold the same excellent design, without a change, for about the last decade.
Stake Options:
Sentry snow goose decoys have three stake options: 1/4″ fiberglass stakes (30″ or 36″ long) or 3/16 stainless steel stakes (24″ long)
3D Hard Plastic Head:
Our sentry snow goose heads are a hard plastic that acts as a handle when setting/pulling the decoys spread—the stainless steel stakes thread into the metal adaptor molded in the top of the head. Our fiberglass stakes push onto the head. There is a push nut inserted solidly inside the head. To add durability, put a thread locker (stainless steel) or glue (stainless or fiberglass) on the stake during assembly. If done correctly, the stake will become part of the head after gluing, and you will likely never be able to disassemble them.
Compact:
Windsock decoys by design are compact. We sell a windsock decoy bag (sold separately) that holds 50 fully assembled sentry head goose decoys. We move multiple spreads a couple of times as we follow the snow and blue geese northward. Our decoy bags make it easy to count, store, organize, and transport the decoys from place to place. We use rattle can spray paint on the decoy bags’ ends. Each spread is a different color; it keeps us organized.
